Wedding Band Guide: Finding the Perfect Match

The Ring You Will Wear Every Day for Life

Your wedding band is likely the most-worn piece of jewelry you will ever own. It goes on your finger on your wedding day and ideally never comes off. This means comfort, durability, and personal style all matter equally. Here is how to find the perfect wedding band.

Matching Your Engagement Ring

  • Flush fit: Your wedding band should sit flush against your engagement ring without a gap. Some engagement ring settings (like halos or cathedrals) require curved or notched wedding bands
  • Metal matching: Same metal is traditional (14K yellow + 14K yellow). Mixed metals can look beautiful (14K yellow engagement + 14K white wedding) but is a deliberate style choice
  • Width coordination: Wedding bands are typically thinner than or equal to the engagement ring band width. A thin wedding band (1.5-2mm) lets the engagement ring be the star

Wedding Band Styles

  • Plain band: Simple, smooth metal with no stones. Classic, comfortable, and timeless. Available in all metals and profiles
  • Diamond band: Small diamonds set along part or all of the band. Adds sparkle that complements a diamond engagement ring
  • Eternity band: Diamonds encircle the entire band. Maximum sparkle. See our separate eternity ring guide for details
  • Milgrain band: Tiny beads along the edges create a vintage texture. Adds handcrafted character to a classic design
  • Twisted/braided: Two or more metal wires twisted together. Unique texture and contemporary appeal

Band Profiles (Cross-Section)

  • Comfort fit: The inside of the band is slightly domed (curved inward). Slides on easily and feels less tight than it actually is. Recommended for daily wear
  • Standard fit: The inside is flat. Traditional construction. Feels tighter than comfort fit at the same size
  • Flat: Both inside and outside surfaces are flat. Modern, architectural look. Less traditional but very contemporary
  • D-shape: Flat inside, domed outside. The classic profile. Comfortable and traditional

Width Guide

  • 1.5-2mm: Delicate and feminine. Stacks beautifully with an engagement ring. The band nearly disappears, keeping focus on the center diamond
  • 2.5-3mm: The most popular width for women's wedding bands. Noticeable but not bulky. Comfortable for all-day wear
  • 4-5mm: Substantial presence. A wider band makes a stronger style statement and feels more solid on the finger
  • 6mm+: Bold and substantial. More common for men's bands but beautiful as a women's statement band
